Pauline is a fine example of the style of leadership we really want and need in our system. She is an outstanding leader both in her school and in the whole organisation.

When her peers refer to Pauline they always use the words ‘strong’, ‘innovative’ and creative’.

Her staff say many things about her.  They say she is soft and compassionate as well as firm and assertive.  They say that she encourages them to take risks, and to move out of their comfort zone, even though they may not like it.

They say she empowers, motivates and develops people as demonstrated by the number of staff gaining leadership positions and promotions from her school. Even if it means losing a valuable member from staff, she nurtures their career plans and further opportunities.

She has mentored and been a positive role model to countless women and men and given generously of her time and expertise in developing others. She constantly reminds staff of system goals, the college’s mission, vision, standards and values and models these in her own behaviour.

She is also an excellent change-management person.  This was ably demonstrated through the closure of Hollywood and Swanbourne Senior High Schools.  She handled the complexities associated with this professionally, capably, honourably and fairly.  It is this ethical framework that she applies to all her decision making. It is not only her staff who say these things.  She has an excellent relationship with her students.  She knows their names and their needs and hasn’t lost her touch with young people.

Community members on the P&C and School Council publicly acknowledge her leadership, drive and vision.  Pauline actively fosters these strong community networks and they share her vision to develop Shenton College as a centre of excellence in education for secondary students.

Pauline is a woman of substance and integrity and well deserves to be presented with the Woman of Achievement Award.
