Biography: Sue Rodway
Work History
Has over 30 years experience in education. During that time has led a number of school leadership positions, including principal and deputy, in rural and metropolitan areas:
- 1974 Commenced teaching at Eastern Hills SHS.
- 1977 Won her first promotion after only 3 years, as Principal Mistress at Kelleberrin DHS.
- 1979 Transferred to Bullsbrook DHS as Deputy Principal, Female.
- Other appointments included:
1984 - Collies SHS, Deputy Principal, Female
1985 - Swanview SHS, Deputy Principal, Female
1994 - Yanchep DHS, Acting Principal
1995 - City Beach HS, Co-Principal
1996 - Gosnells SHS, Principal. - History with the SSTUWA:
1984, ’85,’86 - Elected to SSTUWA Executive
1987–’90 - Member of Executive and Council of Australian Education Union (AEU), WA Branch
1988 - Seconded to Teachers Tribunal
1990 - Deputy President, AEU WA Branch
Major Highlights and Key Achievements
- Obtained her Masters Degree from Curtin University.
- Has been a vocal and proactive proponent of the status of women in education:
- 1984 – ’86 Organising Committee for Women in Education Conferences
- Regular presenter at Women in Education Conferences
- Regular presenter at SSTUWA Women’s Conference in such things as career planning and promotional procedures.
- 1986 Delegate to the Australian Teachers Federation National Women’s Conference.
- Has a passionate commitment to contribute to education through involvement in professional associations:
- 1980 – 1990 Delegate to Secondary Deputy Principals Association State Conference
- Presented to the Secondary Deputy Principals Association State Conference on a number of occasions
- Early – mid ‘90’s worked on the Executive of the WA Principals Association, worked on the case to obtain exemption for Deputy Principals positions from Equal Opportunities legislation.
- Is committed to the career development of staff, mentoring such staff as Maureen Lorimer (Principal, Clarkson CC), Di Turner (Deputy, Sevenoaks College), Karen Arnold (Principal, Hampton SHS) and Karen Wearne (Principal, Sth Fremantle SHS), Noel Chamberlain (Principal, Albany SHS).
